Feed Your Follicles For Optimum Hair Health

Image

When people hear the words “hair loss,” many link such loss to a genetic factor or skin disease such as alopecia. But, what many people don't realize is that some cases of hair loss may be due to rapid weight loss, hormonal imbalances, menopause, pregnancy, certain medications, chemotherapy, chronic stress, poor scalp circulation and even nutrition.

At New England Associates care about your hair health and understand the affects hair loss can have on your daily life. We recommend speaking to a hair loss expert at NEA to receive an accurate diagnosis of the cause of hair loss, but in the meantime it's important to understand other factors that may influence or stimulate loss. Now, let’s take a look at the list we’ve created for you!

  • a.       Vitamin A: This vitamin promotes the growth of healthy cells and tissues. Also, it is necessary for the body to make sebum, which is an oily substance produced by our hair and it serves as a natural conditioner to keep our scalp and hair hydrated. Add yellow/orange or green colored vegetables or fruits rich in beta-carotene to your diet. These foods produce vitamin A. Take your pick of carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, winter squash, mango, spinach, and broccoli!

  • b.      Vitamin B: B-lieve it or not, this complex vitamin is chock full of the same vitamins that naturally occur in the foods you already consume — giving your body an extra boost of energy. They also aid  in the formation of red blood cells. B vitamins can be found in foods such as pork, poultry, fish, wholegrains, eggs, vegetables, and soy beans.

  • c.       Vitamin C: Vitamin C helps in the production of collagen, which supports hair follicles and strengthens the capillaries that supply the scalp and hair. Vitamin C's antioxidant properties increases iron absorption, allowing iron to be rapidly absorbed and used by the body. Good sources of vitamin C are blueberries, kiwi, oranges, broccoli, sweet potatoes, strawberries, and papaya.

  • d.      Vitamin E: This vitamin has the ability to boost circulation to the scalp and it protects the hair from the damaging effects of the sun. Vitamin E is necessary to nourish the hair and to prevent breakage as it helps the body in producing Keratin, which strengthens the hair. Vitamin C and E protect each other and therefore are more effective when consumed together.  Vitamin E ambassadors include almonds, sunflower seeds, spinach, avocados, and kale.

2.      Sulphur - “Nature’s Beauty Mineral”: Sulphur is known as the “nature’s beauty mineral” because it is able to reduce skin inflammation, helps on hair growth and also on blood circulation, which is crucial to a good health. This mineral is abundant in our skin, hair and nails and it is present in all cells in our body. Sulphur also plays an important role in the absorption of several B vitamins, including B5 and B7, which are thought to help aid in hair health. Some symptoms of a lack of sulphur are hair loss, brittle, dry hair and nails, and dry skin. This mineral can only be obtained through diet sources such as protein rich foods, eggs, milk and meat. Our options for vegetarians are garlic, brussels sprouts, seaweed, onions and kale.

3.      Pump Up YourProtein: If you didn’t already know, more than 90 percent of our hair is made of protein. Yes, Protein! Therefore, it’s crucial to pack your diet with plenty of protein for strong, healthy hair. If your diet lacks the protein your body requires, this may cause hair loss. Great protein foods include meats (fish, turkey, chicken, beef), eggs, and dairy products. For vegetarians opt for legumes and nuts.

4.      Make Sure Your Iron Intake is Right: If the iron levels on the body fall below what is required by it to function properly, you are likely to have anemia, which is nothing more than low iron levels in the body. Iron carries oxygen to the hair, and lack of iron means lack of oxygen and that affects the hair’s growth cycle. An affected hair growth cycle may be causing hair loss because you’re loosing more hair than it is being replaced. To remedy the situation, eat animal products such as red meats, chicken, fish, lentils, spinach, broccoli and kale.

5.      Don’t Forget About Copper and Zinc: Did you know that copper can prevent hair loss and it also contributes to hair thickness? Although, only a small amount of copper is required by the body, it is crucial that you consume the right amount of it. Copper is also said to prevent the graying of hair and therefore it intensifies the hair color to make you look even better. But beware; the exaggerated consumption of copper can be toxic, so watch out! Another mineral that works together with copper is zinc. Zinc helps on the production of new cells, including hair cells and the lack of it may cause hair loss and a dry scalp. Note that it’s important to have balance between the consumption of the two minerals; too much zinc interferes in the absorption of copper and too much copper can be toxic, like stated above. A good source of both zinc and copper are black sesame seeds.

6.      Silica Intake: Silica, which is also know as silicon dioxide, was proved in 1939 by Professor Adolf Butenandt that it is essential to human’s skeleton development. Also, silica is thought to stimulate hair growth and prevent baldness. Therefore, silica plays an important role in the human body and helps on the hair’s health. Silica can be obtained through a variety of foods, such as strawberries, asparagus, wheat, rice, beans, cucumber, and potatoes.

7.      Essential Oils: Rosemary oil has been long used because it is known to increase the scalp’s circulation. Also, coconut oil is known for being super nourishing, giving shine and softness to the hair. Add a few drops of rosemary oil to your shampoo or massage your scalp regularly using either rosemary oil or coconut oil.

Remember to consume foods rich in vitamins A, B, C and E. Also make sure your intake of sulphur, protein, iron, zinc and copper are right. Having a balanced diet can solve a thousand problems you may have and save you from some that may come. Your body is your temple, make sure you take care of it!

NEA hopes that these tips can help you maintain healthy, shiny, and voluminous hair so you“Look As Good As You Feel”. Matt Damon's Ponytail Makes the Internet Buzz!

Most media outlets seem to love it, although some people appear to be shocked about an actor changing his or her looks so drastically for a new role (see Jared Leto’s hair transformation earlier this year).

Why NEA Recommends Invisistrand Over Traditional Extensions

Image

Traditional Extensions Can Be Harmful:

Adding extensions to your hair is not all flowers and unicorns. You have to be extremely careful when selecting a salon, because if not applied correctly, extensions can be more harmful than beneficial. At New England Associates, we are proud to provide our clients with a professional staff properly trained in applying hair extensions.

According to the website How Stuff Works one of the most common things that happen when extensions are applied in the wrong way is traction alopecia. Traction alopecia is hair loss due to the exaggerated pulling force applied to one’s hair.

“When hair extensions are put in, they're often woven into the real hair. If the weave is too tight, hair extensions will tug at the real hair they're attached to as they're removed, resulting in loss of the real hair. This tugging of the scalp can also lead to inflammation at the site, since the hair has literally been pulled out by the extension.” [How Stuff Works, Can Hair Extensions Damage My Scalp?]

So isn’t it a good idea to find a team of qualified professionals to take care of your hair and apply your extensions? That’s what we thought, too! Therefore, you should choose New England Associates. You'll even receive a FREE hair and scalp analysis for first time clients!

Here at NEA, we are committed to finding the right process for you and putting the problems of hair loss behind you, once and for all! We have been in the business of hair loss for 32 years and we have the best professionals in the field. Arrange your FREE microscopic hair and scalp examination today! How Marital Status, Smoking and Drinking May Affect Hair Loss in Women

Image

Did you know that women who are divorced or widowed have been shown to experience more hair loss than those who are married?

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons conducted studies several years ago involving identical twins which concluded that factors such as marital status, cigarette smoking, and alcohol consumption were the strongest predictors of hair loss in women. It was shown that the twin who was divorced or widowed had more hair loss than the twin who remained married.

The results were a different story in men as genetics beat out other factors such as smoking, heavy sun exposure, a history of dandruff, hypertension, lack of regular exercise, and elevated testosterone levels.

Image
While the professionals at New England Associates® may not be able to help with relationships, smoking or drinking, they can help you with the resulting hair loss. It starts with a free examination and consultation to identify the cause any symptoms, followed by help in reviewing the options and solutions that would be best-suited for you. If you are interested in discussing more of this with an expert, contact New England Associates® today.

At New England Associates®, how you feel about your hair, and making the right choice to solve problems, matters. We encourage you to review the possibilities and come in for a no-cost, no-obligation private hair loss consultation.

Laser Hair Therapy at NEA

At New England Associates, we understand that hair loss is not something you choose but gaining hair can be! We offer every successful method to replace or restore lost hair including our scientifically proven Laser Hair Therapy Treatments. Laser Hair Therapy is one of the most advanced hair loss treatments available that can help both men and women restore and regrow their own hair.

Laser Hair Therapy is a non-invasive treatment involving “cold” lasers that bathe your hair root with a nourishing light that is designed to energize your hair by increasing blood circulation in the scalp. This increased circulation helps strengthen existing hair follicles by delivering vital oxygen and nutrients. LHT may help lead to a healthier scalp and hair that looks and feels softer, thicker, shinier, and is more easily managed.

Benefits of Laser Hair Therapy:
Increases blood supply to the scalp by 54% after only one treatment.
Slows or stops excessive hair loss.
Stimulates hair follicle.
Repairs and improves hair shaft quality.
Relieves irritating scalp conditions.
Enhances the lasting effects of hair color and perms by closing the hair cuticle.

Laser Therapy is recommended for either men or women who are in the early stages of hair loss or those who have enough hair follicles that are capable of being rehabilitated by the Laser Hair Therapy program. At New England Associates, we utilize the most powerful non-surgical therapeutic lasers that are safe for cosmetic purposes. Our hair laser has 135 laser diodes, more than any other clinical laser in New England that we know of!

At New England Associates, how you feel about your hair loss and making the right choice to solve it matters. We encourage you to take the time and review your options. Then come in for a no cost, no obligation private hair loss consultation to find out how to put the problems of hair loss behind you.
