How to Prepare Your Hair for the Summer

Summer is fast approaching and you know what that means? It’s time for some fun in the sun, dips at the pool, or heading to the beach. We’ll all be outside enjoying the much-needed warmth after months of freezing temperatures.

As we get ready for the summertime, we must protect ourselves from the damaging heat. We all know how to protect our skin from the sun, yet we disregard one important part of our body: our hair! Winter may have been brutal to it, but, summer is its worst enemy. Keeping our hair growing and looking healthy won’t be hard with these essential tips.

Trim your Hair

Start summer right with a nice trim or a complete haircut. Trimming can fortify your hair by cutting off the damaged pieces and leaving room for new healthier hair follicles to grow.

Moisturize your Scalp and Hair

The winter may have deprived your scalp and hair of nutrients that are crucial for growth. Start the summer right by moisturizing your hair with the right products, such as conditioners, oils and SPF sprays, that can restore those nutrients.

Conditioners like our HairStart® Condition25™  are great for restoring vitamins as well as promoting fullness and shine to your hair. Oils, like argan Moroccan oil or avocado oil, are great products that reinstate the oils needed to produce new hair follicles. SPF spays for your hair are key when going out in the sun. Just like our skin, our hair needs UV protection to prevent it from becoming weak and brittle.

Stylish Protective Care for your Hair

You want to protect your hair from the damaging rays of the sun? What better way to do that than with stylish hats or head scarfs? For women, match up your outfit by laying the finishing touch with a summer hat or bright head scarf. Add more style by pairing your head gear with summer’s latest hairstyle trends like the classic pony tail or a braid.

Be Healthy, Take your Vitamins

Maintaining a healthy diet helps promote a healthy scalp. However, sometimes it’s hard to be healthy and eat all the right foods that carry the necessary vitamins that are crucial for hair growth. A great option is to opt for vitamin supplements. They provide the fundamental vitamins necessary to rebuild strong hair in delicious gummy forms.

Understanding Pattern Baldness

Pattern baldness encompasses both male and female patterned baldness. While they have similarities, they differ when it comes to how the hair loss begins. The medical name for pattern baldness is Androgenetic Alopecia and it is the most common cause of hair loss.

Around 50% of all men will experience male pattern baldness by the age of 50. Male pattern baldness is represented by the Norwood scale. The scale shows the most common hair loss progression for men. It begins at the hairline and will recede back to a widow’s peak or “M” shape. It will continue to thin and fall out on the crown of the head as well until there is only hair left on the sides of the head.

If hair loss is caught early and hair falls in the first three stages of the scale, there are many options that New England Associates® can offer you. HairStart® Laser Hair Therapy™ is a great place to start in the early stages because it has proven to make hair fuller and thicker.  For men that have lost more of their hair and are in the last three stages of the scale, non-surgical hair grafting may be used. What will work best for you? Schedule a free and private consultation at newenglandassociates.com.

With female pattern baldness, the biggest factor of the loss is change in the androgens or male hormones. Aging and family history of female pattern baldness also contribute to the problem. Female hair loss differs from male hair loss in the way it thins. The stages of hair loss for female pattern baldness is represented by the Ludwig scale. Thinning begins at the top of the head with a widened center part. Front hair usually remains unaltered through the process until the center reaches total baldness.

If hair loss progression falls in the top four stages, New England Associates® offers HairStart® Laser Hair Therapy™ to slow hair loss and help hair appear fuller and thicker. If hair loss has moved into the later stages Hair Grafting for Women could be a great option. Hair Grafting is a non-medical procedure and women are usually better candidates for the procedure than men.
