Hair Color Options That Won’t Damage Your Hair

Hair coloring has presented some of the biggest trends in recent years. It’s not just for covering up grays but is now used for fashion and expressing oneself. With the rise of social media and viral exposure many techniques and color effects have been created to achieve the next, coolest trend.  However, over-processing and regularly coloring hair can lead to dry, brittle strands and hair loss. If you want to change up your look without your hair suffering damage from harmful chemicals try these safer, healthier hair dye options.

Henna

Henna is a natural plant dye and a popular choice among those seeking a chemical free hair coloring option. Rather than damaging your hair, henna can condition it, which boost elasticity, strength and shine. It gives your hair a colorful tint without penetrating the hair shaft. It may wash out quicker than traditional dyes but it’s effective in coloring your hair without the harsh chemicals.

Semi-permanent hair color

If you’re looking for more variety of colors for your hair, using a semi-permanent hair rinse is the perfect solution. Semi-permanent hair color also does not penetrate the hair shaft which limits damage and breakage caused by bleach and other chemically altering options. Today’s semi-permanent options come in an array of trendy colors and shades and many brands also add in helpful ingredients for your hair such as aloe vera and vitamin E.

If you’re suffering from thinning, damaged hair caused by over processing New England Associates can help! We offer numerous surgical and non-surgical options to solve any level of hair loss. You can also check out our NEA Salon products. Our hair care products are designed for chemically treated and non-treated hair, hair replacement systems and hair extensions.

4 Warning Signs of Hair Loss Men Should Look For

Hair loss is thought to affect 50 million men in the United States, and half of all men by the age of 50 years. Hair loss can be caused by several factors such as: genetics, age, and hormones. Although male hair loss is common, the psychological effects can still be stressful. Thinning hair can make men appear 10 years older than their actual age resulting in a drop in self-esteem and confidence. The good news is that hair loss is completely treatable and the sooner you catch it the better your results. Here are some signs of thinning hair men of all ages should be on the lookout for.

A receding hairline and crown area
One of the most common and noticeable signs of hair loss in males is a receding hair line or a growing bald spot on the top of the scalp.  The Norwood Scale is a diagram that points out the various stages of male pattern baldness. The crown and temple areas of the scalp typically are the sections that begin to thin out first. If you notice your forehead becoming more prominent or a growing m-shape pattern in your hairline it may be time to visit New England Associates.

Your scalp is more prone to sunburn

With thinning hair comes less protection from the sun’s UV rays. As hair thins on your scalp you may notice that it burns quicker or more often than before. Sunburn not only causes damage to your scalp but can weaken your hair follicles and speed up hair loss. If your scalp is becoming more sensitive to the sun and your time outside has not increased it can be a sign of thinning hair.

Hair styles don’t hold as well as before
Are you using more product to get your hairstyles to hold? Does your hair not lay the same way it used too? This is a telltale sign of hair loss. As hair thins it loses its density and strength in those areas and causes bald spots to show, and hair to not sit how it used to. If the amount of time you spend trying to manage your hair increases and you notice yourself covering up thinning areas more often, you may be losing more hair than thought.

You notice more hair falling out
The American Academy of Dermatology says it’s normal to lose around 50-100 hairs a day. Your hair goes through different phases and each individual hair can be at a different part of that cycle. However, as you style or wash your hair, if you notice more hair coming out than usual you may have alopecia. Male pattern baldness, or androgenic alopecia, is the most common form of alopecia in men and is generally related to men’s genes and sex hormones. Check your combs, hairbrushes, shower drain, and pillowcases for hair. If you notice more strands than usual, give us a call!
At New England Associates® we can solve your hair loss! We offer individualized programs that address multiple stages of thinning or balding hair and provide safe and effective alternatives.
