How Often Should You Wash Your Hair?

We all know that washing our hair is important but many of us are unsure if we're washing it correctly. Many of us feel like we’re either washing our hair too much or not washing it enough. How often you should wash your hair typically depends on the type of hair you have.

Fine Hair

Anyone who has fine hair should wash it daily or nearly every day. Since fine hair typically gets oily much faster than any other type of hair, shampooing every day is the best thing you can for it.

Medium Hair

For those who have an in between hair texture it’s best to only wash your hair 2-3 times a week. Shampooing your hair every few days works best since this type of hair doesn't accumulate as much oil as finer hair and it can’t hide oil like thicker hair can.

Thick Hair

If you have thick hair remembering to wash it can be the least of your concerns since you only need to wash your hair about once a week. With thick hair oil buildup happens very rarely since it takes a while for oil from the scalp to travel down thick hair strands.

Natural Hair

For those with natural hair that hasn't been permed, dyed, relaxed or chemically altered you might want to switch to the co-wash method instead of constantly shampooing your hair. The co-wash method switches out your shampoo for conditioner to help keep your hair clean without the dry out that constant shampooing does to your hair.

No matter what type of hair you have you always want to use the best hair products available when it’s finally time to wash it. New England Associates® offers full lines of hair care and hair replacement products for men and women. Their HairStart® products include shampoos and conditioners that will gently clean and moisturize your hair and scalp.

St. Patrick’s Day Hair Styles

With St. Patrick’s Day and the Boston St. Patrick’s Day parade just around the corner, everyone is gearing up and searching for that perfect green outfit. However if you’re looking for a way to celebrate from hair to toe here are a few hairstyles that will make your friends green with envy.

Shamrock Braids
You can’t celebrate St. Patrick’s Day without rocking a few shamrocks, so why not add them to your Irish mane?

Green Flower Crowns & Head pieces
This style allows for a simple festive touch perfect for any hair color or length! Purchase a flowery crown already made or make one yourself using real flowers from a local flower market or fake flowers from a craft store.

Celtic Braid
For those of you who are looking for a more romantic St. Patrick’s Day hairstyle, try braiding your hair into Celtic knots. Wear the braids down or for a more challenging do, create a stunning look with a Celtic braid updo. The results are incredible but this style can be tricky so you may want to practice a bit beforehand.

Green Dip Dye
If you really want to embrace the Irish holiday, add green dye to your hair for a fun twist. Go all in with a full head of green locks or simply dye the ends with a temporary green dye using Kool-Aid, food coloring or a temporary hair color spray.

No matter how you want to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, have fun, be safe, and go green! :)

Kim Kardashian Has Gone Platinum..too?

Jared Leto isn’t the only celebrity who went through some big hair changes this week. Kim Kardashian unveiled her new look at the same Paris fashion show as Jared, with her hair the same shade of platinum blond as his.

While it isn't necessarily a bad thing to change your hair color once in a while, times of temperature extremes such as the dead of winter and the dog days of summer may not be the best times of the year for drastic changes because hair is often under stress during these times and hair can be damaged by the harsh chemicals used in the coloring process.

There are a number of other things to consider when changing color, but when done properly by trained professionals, coloring can be relatively safe.

If you suspect that you may have hurt your hair or scalp by coloring in the past, you should contact an expert who has been specifically trained in hair and scalp issues. The professionals at New England Associates® can perform a physical examination of your hair and scalp to identify any problems and help you review your options and solutions. If you are interested in knowing more about this, contact New England Associates® today.

At New England Associates®, how you feel about your hair problems, and making the right choice to solve them, matters. We encourage you to take the time and review the possibilities and come in for a no cost, no obligation private hair loss consultation.

Jared Leto Cut and Dyed His Hair

It has been a big week for Oscar-winning actor Jared Leto’s hair. First he shocked fans around the world by getting his hair cut off, which he had been growing long since 2012. A few days later he showed up in Paris with his hair totally bleached blond.

The first news was broken on Instagram through a photo of someone holding a pair of scissors to his ponytail and then a peek of his new slicked-back hairdo and clean-shaven face.

After that look gained the attention of thousands of people on social media, he was then seen with his new platinum look at a fashion show in France.

Unfortunately not everyone always has the choice to naturally grow their hair as he did. Some people need a little help doing so, even if they were able to grow it on their own in the past but can’t seem to do it now. The hair experts at New England Associates® can perform a physical examination of the hair and scalp to identify the causes of slowed hair growth and determine the best options and solutions to help get the locks flowing again.

Which Leto look do you prefer??

If you are interested in discussing this with one of our experts, contact New England Associates® today.
