Hair Loss Awareness Month

August is National Hair Loss Awareness Month, to inform those who are unaware and to comfort those who are suffering from hair loss. At New England Associates® we care about our clients and want to give them all of the knowledge and resources available to be able to combat hair loss.

People of all ages, ethnicity and health situations can suffer from hair loss. It is important to remember that you should not be ashamed if you are experiencing hair loss. It is more common than many people think and there are endless options to help fight it.

Men and women are both effected by hair loss, contrary to popular belief. Studies have shown that women make up 40% of hair loss sufferers. As many as 85% of men will have significant hair loss by the age of 50 and some loose hair starting at age 21.

Male Hair Loss Causes

The most common type of hair loss that men experience is male pattern baldness, which is genetic. Some other common causes include: medical conditions, diet, stress and hormones. If you are not getting all the nutrients that your body needs, your hair may be affected by it. Stress also has an effect on hair loss. Too much testosterone can also affect your hair follicles and hair growth stages.

Female Hair Loss Causes

Like men, women suffer from hair loss, including female pattern baldness, which can present itself in different ways. Women may not see the hair loss at the hair line but at the crown of the head. If you notice that the width of your ponytail is getting smaller in diameter, that could be a sign of hair loss. Hair styles that pull on your hair, can often cause hair breakage and damage. Other common hair loss causes include some birth control, ovarian cysts, pregnancy, and menopause.

If you are experiencing hair loss it could be attributed, but not limited to, the causes that we just described. However, just because you are suffering from hair loss does not mean that there aren’t solutions. At New England Associates® we are committed to having you Look As Good As You Feel™. We offer a variety of options ranging from surgical to non-surgical, along with a line of hair products that can be used alone or in addition to a treatment to promote more hair growth.

We offer solutions catered to the different needs of each individual. You can receive hair transplants, hair replacement with treatments like Hair Grafting, and Laser Therapy with our Hair Start® program, among many other options.

If you are dealing with hair loss, it is important to know that you are not alone and are not without options. We are committed to helping you get your confidence back. If want to learn more about the treatments we offer or what options are best for you, you can come in for your free hair and scalp analysis. Summer Hair Care: Keep Your Hair Healthy All Summer Long

Most people are very conscious of their skin while in the sun, they apply sunscreen and bring cover ups to block the UV rays, and even protect their eyes by making sure they have sunglasses or a hat. But what about your hair? The sun, chlorine, and saltwater can have damaging effects on your hair. But no worries, we have some tips and tricks to help make sure you keep your hair luscious and healthy all summer long.

Frizzy Hair
Being out in the sun for extended periods of time allows the summer heat to soak up all the moisture from your hair. As soon as you walk out into any sort of humidity your hair will soak up any moisture it can, leaving you with frizzy locks of hair. Don’t forget that after a long day in the sun you need to moisturize your hair as well, not just your skin. There are many products like NEA Protein Spray that help protect your hair from looking frizzy or even a product that is especially designed for after a day in the sun like NEA Conditioning Mist.

Shield Your Hair From The Sun
Going to the beach, out on the boat, or to the pool? Grab a hat on the way out. You can protect your hair and face at the same time. It’s a simple yet effective option to keep your hair healthy. And try a sunscreen for your hair, one that conditions as well as help maintain your style like NEA Conditioning Glaze.

After Swimming Protection
After getting back from spending a day in the saltwater or in a pool with chlorine, it’s best to wash out that excess water as soon as you can. Take a shower and wash your hair thoroughly to make sure everything is washed out. It's best to use a gentle cleanser that helps remove minerals and chlorine from your hair like NEA Phase IV. You can apply a leave in conditioner like Conditioning Mist or any other type of moisturizing serum if you want to ensure your hair is hydrated.

Getting a Summer Trim
During the spring and summer a lot of your hair follicles are in the anagen or growth stage, so you hair is growing at a faster rate than in the winter. Getting your hair trimmed every 6-8 weeks could keep your hair healthy and make sure that you are split-end free.

Stop the Heat
Try not to put any more heat on your hair than it’s already getting from the sun. It may be best to stay away from the hot hair tools and go with no-heat styling options. If you are used to blow drying your hair you could let it air dry instead. If you are looking to curl your hair you can braid it while it’s wet and sleep on it over night for beachy waves or twist up 1-inch strands and bobby pin them to your head. The next day you can take them out and you will have pretty curls that didn’t take any heat.

Don’t let your hair stop you from having a great time this summer. You can take some steps to help lessen the damage of the sun. If New England Associates® has restored your confidence again by giving you beautiful hair, don’t let the summer sun take that away. At New England Associates®, you will have the opportunity to meet with one of our expert specialists who will answer any questions you may have with the most current information on hair loss and treatment alternatives.

If you are concerned about the current state of your hair, New England Associates® has many treatment options that can help you. They range from non-surgical to surgical such as hair transplants, laser hair therapy, and Hair Grafting. These summer hair care tips will only strengthen your already impressive results.

You can come in for your FREE microscopic hair and scalp analysis where your specific hair loss and scalp condition will be evaluated. Each patient has a unique hair loss pattern and situation that requires a unique approach to restoring or replacing the lost hair. Our programs are tailored to fit your individual needs to provide a solution to your hair loss problem.

Some procedures are medical, some are surgical and others are not. If you feel the program suggested is not the best fit for you and your needs, you are under no obligation to proceed. At New England Associates® the options are many and the choices are yours!
