How to Protect Your Hair from Chlorine

There is nothing better than swimming in a pool on a scorching summer day. Although hanging out in the pool is fun, it can have damaging effects on your hair.

According to Desalinatedwater.com, chlorine is added to pools to keep the water clean and free of bacteria and viruses. With repeated and prolonged exposure, chlorine may turn hair a greenish tint, dry it out and cause breakage.

Luckily, New England Associates® has created a bundle of hair care products that protect against the damaging effects of chlorine. The Swimmers & Mineral-Busting Bundle features four amazing products.

  • NEA Phase 4 Shampoo- removes mineral and chemical deposits caused by hard water, chlorine pools and chemical processing.

  • NEA Replenish Deep Conditioning Treatment-  treats extremely damaged hair and helps protect your hair from nature’s harsh elements.

  • NEA Protein Spray- helps retain the substantive protein content of your hair and to leave it soft and manageable

  • NEA Conditioning Mist- provides detangling, moisture, protein, protection from heat appliances, and reduces frizzy hair

New England Associates® bundles products that are formulated to work together and help maintain healthy hair. For more information about our hair care products, visit our website at www.newenglandassociates.com.

Hair Loss and Hormones

When you hear the term hair loss, the first thing that pops in your mind is a balding man, right? Hair loss is usually associated with men as it affects 50% of them by the age of 50. Although it affects a smaller population, women experience it as well and it can be much more traumatic in their lives. A women’s hair is vital to how they view themselves and their standard of beauty. There are many reasons why women lose their hair and many times it comes down to hormones.

Hair can tell you a lot about a person, including their general health and how they take care of themselves. When your body changes or goes through a stressful event it can change production of certain hormones and chemicals that can stunt hair growth or make it fall out altogether. The conditions and prescriptions listed below can result in your hair thinning or falling out.

· Menopause
· Pregnancy
· Stress
· Medication/ The Pill

All four of these cause hormonal changes in the body.

Menopause can cause hair loss because during this time in a woman’s life, her estrogen levels decrease and cannot balance the dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is a male hormone that can cause hair loss.

Pregnancy causes many changes in a woman’s body hormonally. For some women, pregnancy as well as childbirth can affect the health of their hair and induce hair loss. Postpartum hair loss is normal for mothers and the hair will typically grow back within several months. If it doesn't, contact New England Associates for help!

Stress is another part of life that affects a person’s mind and body. Stress can make people say and do crazy things! It causes more adrenaline than usual to be released into the body which leads to more DHT in the body.

Lastly, being on certain medication especially birth control can lead to hair loss for women. Birth control pills can contain high levels of hormones that not only change the female cycle, they can also affect the health of your hair.

If you are experiencing thinning hair or complete hair loss from any of these factors, New England Associates® is ready to help. NEA has helped many women struggling with hair loss to Look As Good As They Feel™ again. Don’t let hormones stop you from having great hair. Start by scheduling your FREE private hair and scalp examination to figure out the best solution for you. How to Prepare Your Hair for the Summer

Summer is fast approaching and you know what that means? It’s time for some fun in the sun, dips at the pool, or heading to the beach. We’ll all be outside enjoying the much-needed warmth after months of freezing temperatures.

As we get ready for the summertime, we must protect ourselves from the damaging heat. We all know how to protect our skin from the sun, yet we disregard one important part of our body: our hair! Winter may have been brutal to it, but, summer is its worst enemy. Keeping our hair growing and looking healthy won’t be hard with these essential tips.

Trim your Hair

Start summer right with a nice trim or a complete haircut. Trimming can fortify your hair by cutting off the damaged pieces and leaving room for new healthier hair follicles to grow.

Moisturize your Scalp and Hair

The winter may have deprived your scalp and hair of nutrients that are crucial for growth. Start the summer right by moisturizing your hair with the right products, such as conditioners, oils and SPF sprays, that can restore those nutrients.

Conditioners like our HairStart® Condition25™  are great for restoring vitamins as well as promoting fullness and shine to your hair. Oils, like argan Moroccan oil or avocado oil, are great products that reinstate the oils needed to produce new hair follicles. SPF spays for your hair are key when going out in the sun. Just like our skin, our hair needs UV protection to prevent it from becoming weak and brittle.

Stylish Protective Care for your Hair

You want to protect your hair from the damaging rays of the sun? What better way to do that than with stylish hats or head scarfs? For women, match up your outfit by laying the finishing touch with a summer hat or bright head scarf. Add more style by pairing your head gear with summer’s latest hairstyle trends like the classic pony tail or a braid.

Be Healthy, Take your Vitamins

Maintaining a healthy diet helps promote a healthy scalp. However, sometimes it’s hard to be healthy and eat all the right foods that carry the necessary vitamins that are crucial for hair growth. A great option is to opt for vitamin supplements. They provide the fundamental vitamins necessary to rebuild strong hair in delicious gummy forms.

At New England Associates®, our goal is to help restore your hair. Learn more about how New England Associates® can help you by visiting www.HairStart.com or call 1-866-HairStart. Schedule your freemicroscopic hair and scalp examination to learn more ways you can get your hair ready for the summer!

Understanding Pattern Baldness

Pattern baldness encompasses both male and female patterned baldness. While they have similarities, they differ when it comes to how the hair loss begins. The medical name for pattern baldness is Androgenetic Alopecia and it is the most common cause of hair loss.

Around 50% of all men will experience male pattern baldness by the age of 50. Male pattern baldness is represented by the Norwood scale. The scale shows the most common hair loss progression for men. It begins at the hairline and will recede back to a widow’s peak or “M” shape. It will continue to thin and fall out on the crown of the head as well until there is only hair left on the sides of the head.

If hair loss is caught early and hair falls in the first three stages of the scale, there are many options that New England Associates® can offer you. HairStart® Laser Hair Therapy™ is a great place to start in the early stages because it has proven to make hair fuller and thicker.  For men that have lost more of their hair and are in the last three stages of the scale, non-surgical hair grafting may be used. What will work best for you? Schedule a free and private consultation at newenglandassociates.com.

With female pattern baldness, the biggest factor of the loss is change in the androgens or male hormones. Aging and family history of female pattern baldness also contribute to the problem. Female hair loss differs from male hair loss in the way it thins. The stages of hair loss for female pattern baldness is represented by the Ludwig scale. Thinning begins at the top of the head with a widened center part. Front hair usually remains unaltered through the process until the center reaches total baldness.

If hair loss progression falls in the top four stages, New England Associates® offers HairStart® Laser Hair Therapy™ to slow hair loss and help hair appear fuller and thicker. If hair loss has moved into the later stages Hair Grafting for Women could be a great option. Hair Grafting is a non-medical procedure and women are usually better candidates for the procedure than men.
If you are experiencing hair loss and want to make a change, now is the perfect time. Schedule a FREE no-obligation microscopic hair and scalp analysis at New England Associates® and our highly skilled team will help determine what the best option is to help you Look As Good As You Feel!™
