Hair Transplants: Do They Really Work?

At New England Associates® we can help you Look As Good As You Feel!™ with a variety of clinically-proven surgical and non-surgical hair restoration procedures. Many people with certain types of hair loss may benefit from surgical restoration and hair transplantation but patients are sometimes concerned about the results they are promised. Successful hair transplantation depends on a multitude of factors including a patient’s age, the amount of donor hair available and their goals and expectations. We hope the following information will put any prospective clients’ concerns at ease.

The first step of any hair restoration procedure is diagnosis of the patient’s condition based on the unique set of circumstances surrounding his or her hair loss. At New England Associates®, our relaxed and comfortable atmosphere allows us to provide professional private consultations with easy-to-understand information regarding the patient’s hair loss and the choices available to them. Each person has a unique hair loss pattern and situation that requires a different approach towards restoring their lost hair. At New England Associates®, the options are many and the choices are yours! Your hair restoration procedure, hair transplantation or otherwise, is your decision and it should be based on the facts.

Fortunately, modern science has revolutionized the way clinics perform hair transplants, no longer relying on the traditional cornrow method that would leave a patient with “pluggy”, unnatural looking results. So YES, they really can work. Currently, a hair transplant can be performed by harvesting DHT (or Dihydrotestosterone) resistant hair from the back of one’s scalp and then transferring it to areas of thinning or damaged hair or balding areas. This DHT-resistant hair is genetically programmed to continue growing in the recipient area even in the worst cases of male pattern baldness, with the exception of men who suffer from diffuse pattern baldness. Men with diffuse pattern baldness are recommended an alternative hair loss solution such as HairStart® Laser Hair Therapy because there is no guarantee that hair transplanted from a patient with diffuse pattern hair loss will continue to grow.

There are a few additional factors that increase the success of a hair transplant. One of these factors is hair density. Patients with naturally more dense hair will see more promising initial results. Hair density is the number of hair follicles you have per square centimeter of scalp. Scalp laxity is the looseness and flexibility of the scalp. More grafts of hair can be transplanted when the patient has both a high hair density and high scalp laxity.

The direction of hair grafts also affects your visual coverage. Coarser hair is bulkier and can be transplanted using a smaller number of grafts since it provides more coverage of the scalp. Fine hair has less body and can provide a very natural look but less coverage than coarse hair. Wavy and curly hair lends itself to great visual results during transplantation because a single wavy or curly hair can cover more area of the scalp than a straight hair. In addition, curly hair rises from the scalp and holds it shape resulting in greater coverage. Many people with various types of hair loss may benefit from hair transplantation and our professionals at New England Associates® would be happy to discuss the options available to you.

At New England Associates®, you will have the opportunity to meet with your physician who will answer any questions you may have with the most current information on hair loss and treatment alternatives. We will perform a FREE microscopic hair and scalp analysis where your specific hair loss and scalp condition will be evaluated. In addition, you may be given the opportunity to meet with actual hair transplant patients in various stages of their procedures. Before and after pictures are important, but we encourage you to meet with as many patients in-person as possible. We are confident you will be impressed with others’ results as well as your own.

If you’re ready to say goodbye to hair loss, please visit our website at www.HairStart.com or call 1-866-HairStart to schedule a no-cost/no-obligation microscopic hair & scalp exam to diagnose the cause of your hair loss problem and discuss which procedures are right for you!
