No Shave November
When thinking of “ No-Shave November,” or “Movember,” you
might have of trail of thoughts leading to the comments you or your guy friends
might have made, like “it's cold and my
beard keeps my face warm,” or “it makes me look like Chuck Norris."
Some may say it’s an excuse for guys to slack in the
grooming department or that they're channeling their inner lumber jack.
However,
the American Cancer Society is using
this idea in a more philanthropic way.
FACT: More than one
million people in the United
States get cancer each year. It can strike
at ANY age. Cancer is the second most common cause of death in the U.S., w hich
means that it accounts for nearly 1 out of every 4 deaths. (http://www.cancer.org/)
It’s a very clever idea to "grow" awareness with
hair. The premise of this is to increase awareness by “embracing your hair,
which many cancer patients lose, and letting it grow wild and free.” Donate the money that you would have spent on shaving and grooming for a month
to teach cancer prevention, save lives and support those who are fighting
this disease. (http://www.no-shave.org/)
While this seems like something that’s only geared towards
men – it’s not. Both men and women are more than welcome to join the cause by
making donations. Put that facial hair to good use and donate this year!
Always help spread
the word. The accumulation of donations means an increase in resources to
prevent and fight cancer.
