Men’s Hair Loss and Genetics

The American Hair Loss Association (AHLA) states that about 85% of men will have significant hair thinning by the time they turn 50. Majority of male hair loss – more than 95% – is attributed to male-pattern baldness, which is a genetic trait. It is important to note that in most cases hair loss in men does not signal that there is a medical problem.

The gene that causes male-pattern baldness can come from either parent. According to WebMD, a sign that you are beginning to experience male-pattern baldness is a receding, M-shaped hairline.

The next sign is hair thinning on the top of your head; eventually the two meet and create a horseshoe-type appearance around the head.

Hormones are another major cause of male-pattern baldness. The hormone, Dihydrotestosterone (DHT), causes hair follicles to shrink. These hair follicles end up shrinking so much that hair can no longer grow from them.

New England Associates (NEA) offers every successful option to stop hair loss and re-grow, restore, or replace hair. Several procedures that NEA offers to help men and women fight hair loss are Hair Transplantation, Hair Replacement, and Laser Hair Therapy Treatments, among others.

Among NEA’s many hair loss-fighting procedures, we also offers a free consultation and hair and scalp analysis.
