Don’t Let Your Hair Hold You Back This Summer

Summer is here and the water is calling our names. Many of us have plans to spend weekends in the pool, ocean or lake but do not want the potential damage that the water, chlorine and the sun can cause. Whether you have just had one of our hair treatments, are thinking about getting one or just want to keep your hair protected, New England Associates® offers a vast line of products that can help combat the elements.

Swimmers & Summer Hair Care Bundle

NEA's Phase 4 shampoo removes mineral and chemical deposits caused by hard water, chlorine pools and chemical processing.

The Replenish Deep Conditioning Treatment is a custom formulation for extremely damaged hair designed to protect your hair from nature’s harsh elements by replenishing it with Provitamin B, Vitamin B & C.

NEA Protein Treatment Formula Spray will help to retain the substantive protein content of your hair and to leave it soft and manageable. This works best when applied after rinsing shampoo from your hair and before conditioning with cream conditioners.

The final product in the bundle is the NEA Conditioning Mist, a blend of unique ingredients that provides detangling, moisture, protein, protection from heat appliances, and reduces "frizzies" all at the same time.

This combination of products will keep you protected from all of your summer adventures. You can bring the NEA conditioning mist with you to spritz on your hair while out in the sun to create a natural moisture barrier between the elements and your hair.

It is important to rinse and wash your hair after a day in the water; you don’t want to leave the chlorine or other minerals in your hair too long.

Using the New England Associates® Shampoo, Replenish Deep Conditioning Treatment, Protein Treatment Formula Spray, and Conditioning Mist after a day in the sun will keep your hair hydrated all summer long.

Slow Hair Growth? Here Could Be the Reasons Why

Experiencing stunted hair growth, no matter what you do? Generally, your hair grows at a consistent speed determined by your genetics. A healthy diet, exercise and drinking plenty of water are crucial to growing long, strong, healthy hair. However, if you notice bald spots on the scalp continuing to grow and not the length of your hair there could be other factors affecting your hair’s growth.

Over Processing and Styling
This is one of the most common causes of damaged and weak hair. Chemically processed is weaker than untreated hair because the pores have been opened, which results in protein loss. Frequent chemical processing and coloring can cause hair to become damaged and can eventually break off. Also, different types of braids, tight up-dos, and hair extensions can cause stress to the hair shaft, leading to receding hair lines and hair loss. To combat damage from styling allow your hair to air dry more often and take a break from wearing extensions for a few weeks. At your next salon visit opt for a safer hair color option like a semi-permanent dye.

Hair Miniaturization
Hair miniaturization is the hormone-driven biological process in which hairs follicles shrink in size over time, eventually leaving a bald scalp. This process occurs naturally in those who have a predisposition to androgenetic hair thinning, also known as genetic balding. The speed or time in life at which this can happen is a hereditary factor. Miniaturization causes your natural hair growth cycle to shorten which means hair produced from the follicle will be weaker, duller, and thinner. You can help combat this by stimulating blood circulation to the scalp with our Laser Hair Therapy and hair care products that cleanse the scalp and block DHT hormones which cause the hair growth cycle to shorten.
Hormonal Imbalance
Hormonal hair loss in women is common due to a lifetime of constantly fluctuating hormones from pregnancy, menopause, and other factors. Hormonal issues could also be a sign of thyroid disease or PCOS which can cause hair to appear thin and sparse. PCOS is a common hormonal condition affecting women of reproductive age. It can cause irregular menstrual cycles, excess bodily hair growth, weight gain, and complications with fertility. Some women with PCOS experience male-pattern baldness as well. Hormonal problems that lead to hair loss, when occurring in small amounts, can make it seem like your hair just is not growing. If you notice any of these symptoms talk to your doctor to get an official diagnosis and treatment plan.

Disease
Severe diseases like pneumonia or cancer can cause hair growth to become stagnant and possibly fall out. The during the normal hair cycle, the hair follicle grows, then rests, then sheds to be replaced with new hair. The stress of severe illness can cause all hair follicles to go into their resting phase (telogen phase), and hair growth temporarily ceases. If you’re experiencing illness and noticeable hair loss, we suggest talking to your doctor as soon as possible.

Suffering from slow hair growth or irreversible hair loss? New England Associates can help you regrow and restore your hair. We offer numerous, proven effective treatments for men and women. No matter your level of hair loss or hair type we have a solution for you! Hair Care Myths that can be Contributing to Your Hair Loss

We’re sure you might know a lot about your hair and how to care for it but is every tip you’ve picked up along the way true? There are a ton of false hair care tips out there that men and women have believed for years to be true. Your “popular” hair care routine can be doing more harm to your hair than good. We can pretty much agree everyone wants full, healthy hair so it’s important to know what is right and wrong for your locks.

1.Your hair is self-cleaning
This is certainly not true! Your hair and scalp will only become dirtier if you don’t wash it. Excessive sebum and dirt build-up clogs hair follicles, slowing hair growth, and can increase breakage and hair loss. However, the frequency with which you wash your hair depends on your hair type and how oily your scalp is. Switch to an every-other-day or every-third day shampoo, if you can.  If you work out or sweat a simple rinse is effective.” For maximum effect try HairStart® DexPan™ Scalp Preparation. It revitalizes your scalp by making it clean and removing excessive sebum oils and debris that can block the follicle, restricting new fragile hair from coming through the scalp.

2.  Dry shampoo is better than regular shampoo
It’s okay to use dry shampoo but it doesn’t actually clean your hair. New York City dermatologist Francesca J. Fusco, who consults for Unilever, notes that the scalp needs to be hydrated and washed with shampoo. “It is fine to use dry shampoo in a pinch, but nothing replaces… water and wet shampoo.” When shampooing, make sure to gently massage the scalp and not just focus on your hair. You’ll know when you scalp and hair is clean, when you produce large, foamy bubbles. Use shampoos that are sulfate-free and that have ingredients designed to clean your scalp, like tea tree oil.  Shampoos like HairStart® Gentle Cleanse™ are free of sodium laurel sulfates and DEA, two harsh ingredients found in almost all commercially available shampoos.

3.  Fine hair shouldn’t be conditioned
Many believe conditioners weigh down fine or thin hair and often forgo this vital step. All hair types need conditioner that moisturizes the hair and scalp. Conditioner, like HairStart® Condition25™, provides your hair with essential vitamins and minerals for fuller and healthy-looking hair. A properly moisturized hair and scalp gives hair a beautiful shine and increases elasticity. It’s also especially important for detangling and preventing split ends. To prevent thin hair from getting weighed down put conditioner on the ends of your hair strands and use a lighter leave-in conditioner such NEA Silkening Conditioning Mist.

4.  Cutting your hair makes it grow faster
Your hair goes through a cycle of phases. The speed of your hair growth depends on the time your hair follicles spends in the anagen phase (growth phase) or telogen (resting) phase. “Cutting the hair shaft itself has nothing to do with the hair follicle that is located within the skin or the dermis,” says hair surgeon Ken L. Williams Jr. However, regularly trimming your ends can get rid of split ends and can help make your hair appear longer. Celebrity hairstylist Paloma Rose Garcia suggests trimming your hair every 3 months at a minimum. In between trim appointments use NEA Frizz Control and Gloss to tame split and frizzy ends and protect against heat damage.

5.  2 in 1 Shampoo and Conditioner is just as effective as 2 separate bottles
While it may seem like a great time saver this works for very few hair types. Shampoo and conditioner serve two different and specific purposes. Shampoo cleans dirt and excess build-up out of your scalp, while conditioner helps retain moisture and shine caused by the good naturally occurring oils produced in your hair strands. “When they are done at the same time, it strips away the shine and healthy look that you get when done separately," says Temur from Sharon Dorram Color at Sally Hershberger. However, don’t get 2 in 1 shampoo/conditioners confused with moisturizing shampoos. When followed by a creamy conditioner, moisturizing shampoos are great for thick coarse hair. Fine, thin hair needs a good scalp cleansing shampoo followed by a light weight conditioner. Applying a normal multi-step hair care regimen can save you time in the long run from having to hide thinning or unhealthy hair.

SOLUTIONS FOR ITCHY SCALP

Yes, it’s winter.  Itchy Scalp?  Static electricity making you scratch your head?  Wearing Hats and your scalp is sweating more than normal?  Many things can result in your scalp becoming itchier in the winter.  Proper hair care products may help relieve your discomfort.

If you think you are suffering more than normal with an itchy scalp, the sooner you get evaluated and find a solution, the better.  Not only to relieve yourself from discomfort, but also to make sure the condition does not become chronic or worse.

A visit to your doctor can help determine if you have what is, in medical terms, known as scalp psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis or both on your scalp.  These scalp conditions can evidence themselves with red and scaly skin.

Psoriasis may extend beyond the hairline and to the knees, elbow and other places on the body.  Seborrheic dermatitis is indicated with skin flakes known as dandruff, red skin and possible itching.

New England Associates Low Level Laser Hair Therapy (LLT) may be able to help in some of these scalp conditions.  Photo therapy has been known for its treatment and healing properties.

Combined with our Hair Start® hair care products, this may just be the one-two punch you need to help with an itch scalp!

Restoring Your Hair in 2019: What Causes Male Hair Loss?

Men can suffer from hair loss throughout their young adult life and it can become significant as they get older.  Male pattern baldness, also known as Androgenetic Alopecia, is the most common reason for hair loss. Genetics, stress, medications, treatments for cancer and autoimmune diseases can result in hair loss as well.

Most men suffer from dihydrotestosterone or DHT for short, which causes the life cycle of your hair follicles to be shortened.

The Norwood Scale

Male patterned baldness is usually evidenced by a gradually decreasing u-shaped ring of hair that wraps around the back of the head and reduction of hairline and hair on top of the head. Adults with healthy hair will have hair that is in one of 3stages:  dormant, growing or falling out.

When a man suffers with DHT and/or because their hair and scalp is not healthy, chances are great their hair will not grow back.  This is where New England Associates™ can help.

We’ve helped thousands of men find out why they are losing their hair through our Microscopic Free Evaluation.  This helps us determine what treatment program will work best for you.

Laser Hair Therapy and New England Associates™ proprietary Hair Start® Products may be a good solution as well or our non-surgical hair restoration and hair transplants which can restore the hair you are hoping for.

It’s a New Year and time to take control of your hair loss!  What would you look like with a full head of hair again?  Find out and call today!  For more information or to schedule your free consultation call 1-866-HairStart or visit our website today!

Age Appropriate Hair Restoration

No hair loss situation is the same. Similarly, each hair loss solution should not be the same; every person and solution should be unique to their age, needs and situation. Have you ever seen a hair restoration solution that is not age appropriate, meaning the results don’t look natural? At New England Associates®, we strive to give our clients the hair they desire with the most natural looking results that are age appropriate. So which hair loss solution is age appropriate for you? Let’s find out!

How old are you and how advanced is your hair loss?
The earlier you decide to treat hair loss the better off you are at achieving natural looking results. The Norwood Hamilton scale is a good indicator of what stage of hair loss you may be in.  Levels 1-3 may not require hair restoration but require simpler solutions such as laser hair therapy or hair transplants. Depending on how advanced your hair loss is, New England Associates® has a solution that is tailored for your specific case that is age appropriate. How many times have you seen an older person with a hair piece that just doesn’t look natural? We will try to thicken your existing hair while growing new hair so that your final results look as natural as possible!

What are your options?
For people in the early to mid-stages of hair loss we recommend a multi-therapeutic approach that utilizes scientifically proven products and devices that slow hair loss and even grow new hair! For people experiencing advanced hair loss, we offer surgical and non-surgical hair grafting. Surgical hair grafting is typically performed when a patient has a sufficient amount of hair left in the donor area.

Is your solution to hair loss age appropriate?
Whichever hair restoration solution we determine is best for you, we factor in how natural the results will look. An older man or woman may not have a thick head of colorful hair, but we will cover bald spots and improve the quality of your hair, making the final results look age appropriate. Visit our website at http://newenglandassociates.com/contact_us.htm to schedule your free hair and scalp consultation today!

Hair Restoration Solutions for Men

According to the American Hair Loss Association, by the age of thirty-five, approximately two thirds of men will have lost some hair. By the age of fifty, 85% will have experienced hair thinning or have lost a significant amount of hair. Male pattern baldness and hair loss is generally a genetic factor in most men and can make finding solutions seem like an impossible task. At New England Associates® we make it easy and have products and services designed to help a man's hair appear healthier, fuller and even longer looking. No matter what stage of hair loss you may be at we have the best and latest hair loss solutions for you!

One of the keys to fighting hair loss is combating it in its earliest stages. Our HairStart® products and supplements are specifically designed to strengthen your strands and are proven to slow hair loss by providing essential nutrients and creating a healthy growth environment. We also offer laser hair therapy, a non-surgical FDA approved hair restoration process that stimulates and strengthens hair at the root using cold-laser technology. This treatment has been proven to slow or stop hair loss and promotes regrowth so you can have thicker and fuller hair again.

Non-medical hair replacement options are a great solution for restoring healthier-looking hair without need for invasive procedures. A few of the options we offer are Hair Grafting, InVisiStrand, or Hair Over Time; completely natural looking hair restoration systems that can be easily customized to your desired hair color and style. This pain-free dermal-to-dermis infusion is the secret behind Hair Grafting and this new procedure can make your hair longer and fuller looking in a matter of hours! Beginning results are seen immediately and finished results can be achieved over time so no one will know. It looks and feels real because it is real! You can still do all the activities you enjoy without worrying about thinning or bald areas showing.

Many men, if they qualify, may benefit from hair transplantation. This hair restoration procedure surgically transplants your own healthy hairs to thinning areas to regrow natural-looking hair. Highly trained physicians will work directly with you and your particular needs to carefully craft your procedure for optimum results.

Hair loss makes a man typically appear 10 years older than his actual age. With New England Associates® you can restore your hair to its former glory or maybe look even better than before!

At New England Associates® we want to help you “Look As Good As You Feel!” and provide you with a No Obligation Consultation and Microscopic Hair Analysis Free of Charge.

We’ve been in the hair restoration industry for 36 years and understand that every individual’s hair loss situation is different. What is Low Level Laser Therapy and How Does it Work?

Low Level Laser Hair Therapy is a treatment used to treat those who suffer from thinning/damaged hair, or androgenetic alopecia, also known as pattern balding. Androgenetic alopecia affects 70% of men and 40% of women.  Laser Hair Therapy is a safe hair restoration option that can be greatly effective as a stand-alone treatment or as an additional treatment after a hair transplantation to speed up healing and hair quality. Low Level Laser Therapy is also called red light therapy, cold laser, cool laser, soft laser, biostimulation, and photobiomodulation.

Laser hair therapy is FDA approved and utilizes red lasers, typically 630-670 nanometers in wavelength. These lasers penetrate the scalp to increase the blood flow. This then stimulates metabolism in the catagen and telogen follicles, which can result in an increase of hair in the anagen stage.

“The photons of light act on cytochrome C oxidase leading to the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP). This is converted to cyclic AMP in the hair follicle cells, releasing energy and stimulating metabolic processes necessary for hair growth.
Release of nitric oxide from cells leads to increased vascularisation to the scalp distributing nutrients and oxygen to the hair roots.” - Anoma Ranaweera B.V. Sc; PhD

There are no true downsides to laser hair therapy, it is relative inexpensive, clean and painless, no adverse effects have been reported, and it requires minimal time commitment. You can even have a laser treatment on your lunch break!
