How Laser Therapy Promotes Hair Growth

Lasers are used in a variety of ways—from industrial developments, military operations to procedural medicine. For years, medical professionals have been using this tool to improve eye sight, removal of sunspot and birthmark, and incisions for surgical operations.
However, one of laser’s major contributions is in the field of hair loss treatment. Today, another form of laser— the cool laser— is becoming a renowned solution to stop hair loss and stimulate better hair growth.  And at New England Associates, our Laser Hair Loss Therapy program has helped clients restore their hair.
Cold lasers use low-level infrared light energy to enter deep into the tissues of the scalp and encourage proper protein synthesis and cellular metabolism. By exciting the hair follicles and the scalp with low-level laser, it promotes the development of fuller, thicker, and healthier hair strands.
Over the years, studies show laser hair therapy supports hair growth in three ways:
1.       Energization
Low-level laser light works by magnifying the energy available to the cells and tissues of the body, rapidly absorbing nutrients and removing toxins. Hair experts have been using this technology to hasten tissue repair and wound healing. The phototherapy provided by cold laser treatment energizes the tissues and living cells in the scalp, creating a healthy environment for optimum growth.
2.       Circulation
Laser hair therapy enhances circulation and oxygenation of the blood. It also lessens blockages and calcification around the hair bulb as well as improves cell and tissue regeneration. The increased blood flow in the scalp helps deliver adequate amount of nutrients and oxygenated blood to the hair roots, encouraging the development of healthier hair follicles for the creation of fuller and thicker hair strands.
3.       Vibration
It is believed that a cell’s healthy functioning is mostly dependent on an exchange of information and energy with its surrounding cells. Therefore, a cell is in an unhealthy situation when its vibration becomes imbalanced with this common communication system. To combat that, it can be transported back into vibratory “harmony” through low-level lasers.

Alopecia: Millions Affected By Hair Loss

What if you woke up one day and realized all of your hair was gone? Total body hair loss is an unfortunate reality for some. Some people wake up and find increasing amounts of their hair falling out in patches each week until a couple of months later, they’re bald. They spend years covering up bald spots or discovering chunks of hair stuck in their brush from each use. Many sit and watch their identity slowly fall away and feel like there’s really nothing they can do about it. These people suffer from Alopecia Areata and it can be a very emotionally devastating disease. According to the National Alopecia Areata Foundation, over 6.6 million people in the United States and 147 million worldwide have, had or will develop Alopecia Areata at some point in their lives.

Alopecia Areata is an autoimmune skin disease that causes hair loss on the scalp and possibly other areas of the body. T-cells attack the hair follicles hiding them from immune recognition. It generally starts with hair on the scalp falling out in patches,  creating smooth round bald spots which can eventually progress to total scalp hair loss (Alopecia Totalis) or complete body hair loss (Alopecia Universalis). The disease can affect anyone at any age but symptoms often begin during childhood. The cause of Alopecia Areata is still unknown and we do not know what activates the autoimmune reaction. Research suggests it could be a combination of genetic susceptibility or environmental triggers that may confuse the immune system.

As mentioned, having Alopecia Areata can be very emotional for those suffering from its symptoms. Many are embarrassed by hair loss and feel as if they have lost what makes them attractive or normal. The National Alopecia Areata Foundation offers support networks to those suffering from the disease as well as their loved ones. They even established a NAAF Pen Pals Programs which provides a great opportunity to connect and meet, via email or letters, with those affected.
There is no cure for Alopecia and the hair can re-grow and fallout for a period of a few months, years or a lifetime, which makes the disease difficult to predict. There are some dermatologist who will prescribe medicines and topical creams that can be used to help hair grow back faster but even with these, hair loss can still occur. At New England Associates® we provide several surgical and non-surgical solutions to help those suffering from severe hair loss such as our HairStart® Laser Hair Therapy™ Treatments, hair transplants, InVisiStrand hair replacements and more! If you or someone you know is suffering from Alopecia Areata who wants their confidence back, call 1-866-HairStart for your free microscopic hair and scalp analysis. Hair Loss: Can it Happen Everywhere?

Hair loss is a common condition that can affect men, women, and even children. There are a variety of causes for hair loss, some more difficult to diagnose than others, including auto immune diseases, hormonal imbalances and changes, excessive lack of vitamins, among many more. These factors contribute to hair loss along the scalp region, but what about the rest of the hair on our bodies? Can hair loss occur elsewhere?

Hair loss can in fact occur on our arms and legs. Livestrong.com lists several causes for the occurrence of hair loss within the arm and leg regions of the human body. Let’s take a look.

1. Skin Conditions
Dermatitis, Psoriasis and Keratosis Pilaris are a few of the skin conditions that can cause hair loss on the arms and legs. Dermatitis usually involves an itchy rash on swollen, reddened skin. Psoriasis occurs from immune cells that attack healthy skin. Keratosis Pilaris is inflammation of the skin hair follicles.

2. The use of Steroids
It is no surprise that steroid use can have numerous negative effects on the human body, one of those effects is widespread hair loss. Steroids that contain massive quantities of testosterone are much more likely to cause hair loss on the arms and legs.

3. Physiological Disorders
Alopecia Universalis is a medical condition involving rapid loss of all hair, this includes hair loss occurring on the arms, legs, eyebrows and eyelashes, as well as the scalp.

4. Medication
Chemotherapy drugs are some of the most common causes for hair loss throughout the body. However, there are also several other medications that can cause hair loss on the body’s limbs: These are medications for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, Parkinson’s and arthritis.

5. Lifestyle
Diet and stress are lead causes for hair loss occurring on the scalp, as well as on the arms and legs. When the body is starved of sleep, vitamins and other necessary minerals and nutrients, hair loss, among many other negative consequences, can occur.

At New England Associates (NEA), we’ve been specializing in hair restoration for both men and women in the Northeastern United States since 1982. The Art Behind Hair Transplantation at New England Associates

Hair loss can be extremely devastating to an individual, both physically and mentally. Both men and women can experience thinning hair to complete baldness due to a number of factors including genetics, medications, Alopecia, and more. Although, many hair loss sufferers feel alone in their battle against loss, there are many solutions available today including both surgical and non-surgical procedures. If surgical restoration is an option for you, New England Associates is proud to offer Hair Transplantation.

Hair Transplantation dates back to the 19th century and has made some great advancements. The Transplantation method removes hair from the back or sides of the head and transplants this hair into the areas of balding. The back and sides of the scalp are ideal for transplantation as these hairs are genetically pre-determined not to fall out. Hair Transplantation is considered minor surgery and most patients experience a quick recovery time. Find out if you're a candidate for Hair Transplants at New England Associates by visiting http://hairstart.com/contact_us.htm

Here at New England Associates we have the best team available to assist you from your first visit to our office to after your recovery process.

Three Types of Alopecia: Areata, Totalis, Universalis

It is natural to lose or shed hair on a daily basis throughout your lifetime. However, it is more alarming when the amount lost becomes larger than normal or even comes out in apparent chunks. There is a term for such a loss: Alopecia.

What is Alopecia?

According to the American Hair Loss Association, Alopecia is the medical term for excessive or abnormal hair loss. There are varieties of forms of Alopecia. The following are considered to be autoimmune disorders. The loss of a person’s hair happens because the person’s immune system mistakenly attacks their body, or rather, their hair follicles.

Alopecia Areata: Alopecia Areata is a condition that occurs in patches anywhere on the body.

Alopecia Totalis: Alopecia Totalis results in the total of hair on the scalp. This can be at the scalp only. It can be considered an intermediary between Areata and Universalis.

Alopecia Universalis: Alopecia Universalis is the more severe more of Alopecia Areata. This condition is characterized by the complet loss of hair on the scalp AND body. It is also considered to occur in some genetically predisposed people.
