What is DHT?

Hair loss affects both men and women in different ways and can have a huge impact on our lives. Dihydrotestosterone, or DHT as it’s more commonly known is a steroid and hormone that plays a substantial role in men and women’s hair loss. However, it isn’t all bad news. For men and women suffering the effects of thinning hair or hair loss, there are clinically proven hair loss solutions and medical procedures that work to address the effects of DHT.

Male Pattern Baldness or Androgenetic Alopecia mostly affects the front and top of the scalp where the majority of DHT-susceptible hair follicles sit. DHT is the biggest contributing factor to male pattern baldness. Female hair loss is more complicated and DHT could be only one of the possible causes. In women, DHT build-up is influenced by a decrease in estrogen and tends to result in thinning hair, rather than the complete balding seen in men.

DHT is a sex steroid and androgen hormone, a hormone associated with the expression of masculine characteristics. The enzyme 5a-reductase synthesizes DHT from testosterone in several areas throughout the body including hair follicles, prostate and adrenal glands. While testosterone is essential for normal sexual behavior and metabolic activities including the production of blood cells, bone formation and liver function, DHT is primarily involved in developing sexual characteristics such as facial hair. In a nutshell, DHT is a by-product made from testosterone and helps the body regulate itself. DHT puts hair on men’s faces and bodies in their early lives, but for many men, it also takes it away from the scalp.

So, how does DHT cause hair loss? A common misconception is that DHT actually causes the hair to fall out. In reality, this is not the case. DHT actually restricts the hair follicles ability to grow. For those who have a history of hair loss in their family, the hair follicles may be particularly sensitive to the effects of DHT. When DHT attaches itself to the receptor cells of the hair follicles, it prevents proteins, vitamins and minerals from providing the nourishment necessary to sustain life, causing them to shrink. As the hair follicles shrink, the hair is reproduced at a slower rate either shortening its growing phase or lengthening its resting phase. The end result is thinning hair as the hair becomes finer with each growth cycle and eventually new hairs stop growing.

Despite this, there are alternatives to living with thinning or balding hair. One option is to attempt to inhibit the production of DHT in a number of ways. While proper nutrition is important for maintaining your overall health in addition to the health of one’s hair, it alone will not counter the effects of DHT. Without interfering with the body’s natural testosterone levels, clinically proven hair loss treatments counter the symptoms of hair loss either by returning proper blood flow to the hair follicle or by inhibiting the production of DHT itself. New England Associates® is proud to offer nutritional supplements specific for hair, hair care products and Laser Hair Thearpy (LLLT; which uses the principle of photobiotherapy to restore damaged or dormant hair follicles that have broken down due to the collection of DHT) for healthy fuller looking hair.

Chris Found His Answer to Hair Loss at New England Associates

Men—are you experiencing hair thinning or hair loss? New England Associates® has several options for you. With over 34 years of experience in the hair restoration industry, at New England Associates® we know what it’s like for men to lose their hair. We know that men of all ages can experience hair loss and we know that it can happen for a multitude of reasons. Fortunately, we also know how to combat these problems by providing you with a hair loss alternative that is tailored specifically to your needs and expectations as a patient.

In past times, men who were genetically predisposed towards hair loss might have had to settle with shaving their head. Today, they may be able to maintain their hair and keep it in a healthier condition. At New England Associates®, we offer successful options to slow/stop hair loss and help regrow, restore or replace hair. Some clients have hesitations concerning hair replacement procedures. Here, Chris offers some reassurances for men considering hair loss alternatives.

One of the first concerns for men and women considering a hair loss alternative is the authenticity of the look they will have afterwards. “I think that most men think that this is going to look fake. I just couldn’t be happier with the results that I have achieved and I think it’s achievable for any man.” New England Associates® understands and addresses this concern up front with their complimentary hair and scalp examination as part of your free consultation.

During your hair and scalp examination we examine your hair loss and determine how significant it is. If your hair loss is in its early to middle phases, we encourage men to first attempt to slow/stop the hair loss they’re experiencing and simultaneously grow their hair if possible. New England Associates® utilizes this approach combining scientifically proven products and devices that according to the International Journal of Cosmetic Surgery & Aesthetic Dermatology can increase your hair by up to 93 percent. For men who have already experienced a significant amount of hair loss, follicular unit surgical procedures or non-surgical hair grafting are excellent options. All surgical options are performed by professional physicians who perform hair restoration procedures that result in real growing hair.

When asked how he was treated by the staff, Chris had this to say. “They care that you’re going to look great when you walk out. If you have a need to come back in for a touch up, they are very accommodating and will gladly accept you back in because they want you to look good.”

Utilizing the newest technology available today, the professionals at New England Associates® are here to help you Look As Good As You Feel! ™. When asked what Chris might say to others, he replied “If I were a guy with thinning hair and it was bothering me, I would definitely make an appointment to consult with someone knowledgeable about hair loss. Ultimately, you may not do anything, but at least you know what your options are.” At New England Associates® the options are many and the choices are yours!

When you visit New England Associates® for a complimentary consultation, all of your questions will be answered by our expert staff. During this consultation, you may view actual before and after pictures of clients who have had similar services performed and discuss the procedures that interest you most. The initial process of any procedure can be started right away if you choose.

You will find your experience at New EnglandAssociates® to be a rewarding and positive one as all New England Associates® staff members deliver friendly and personalized service. Laser Hair Therapy Worked for Joyce

Sometimes our clients are so pleased with the results of their hair restoration procedure that they proudly share their stories with us in the hopes that other individuals suffering the effects of hair loss might be inspired to find their own solution. Joyce, an actual Laser Hair Therapy client, shared her success story.

Joyce’s hair loss began as a result of her body producing too little thyroid hormone, a condition otherwise known as Hypothyroidism. Too little thyroid hormone affects the body’s natural ability to control the way it uses energy and can leave one feeling tired and weak. Although people of any age can develop hypothyroidism, older women are more likely to be at risk. Joyce, aware of her condition, noticed she was experiencing extensive hair loss and was ready for something to be done to change that.

Joyce sought a free consultation and was helped to understand the uniqueness of her needs. While most women experience some form of hair loss in the front of the hairline and top of the scalp, Joyce’s hair loss was predominantly in the back. The hair restoration experts recommended the Laser Hair Treatment Program.

When asked what others have said about her results, Joyce commented that her husband continues to be amazed at the improvement in her hair. Thanks to her remarkable results Joyce is an advocate for the program.

We recommend consulting with a team of hair restoration experts for your hair loss, just as Joyce did. Utilizing physician-directed treatment programs, New England Associates® offers clinically-proven methods to stop hair loss and regrow your own existing hair. We can combine innovative laser technology with physician strength medical remedies including Minoxidil, Saw Palmetto and herbal Propecia products to successfully prevent hair loss. Laser Hair Therapy is an effective non-surgical hair loss solution that both men and women with thinning or damaged hair can benefit from.

At New England Associates® you will find every successful method that effectively stops hair loss and repairs, replaces, restores or regrows lost hair. If you are interest in improving the health and density of your hair, contact New England Associates® at 1-866-HairStart and schedule a FREE microscopic hair and scalp analysis today to find a hair loss solution that is the perfect fit for you and your needs.

Hair Transplants: Do They Really Work?

At New England Associates® we can help you Look As Good As You Feel!™ with a variety of clinically-proven surgical and non-surgical hair restoration procedures. Many people with certain types of hair loss may benefit from surgical restoration and hair transplantation but patients are sometimes concerned about the results they are promised. Successful hair transplantation depends on a multitude of factors including a patient’s age, the amount of donor hair available and their goals and expectations. We hope the following information will put any prospective clients’ concerns at ease.

The first step of any hair restoration procedure is diagnosis of the patient’s condition based on the unique set of circumstances surrounding his or her hair loss. At New England Associates®, our relaxed and comfortable atmosphere allows us to provide professional private consultations with easy-to-understand information regarding the patient’s hair loss and the choices available to them. Each person has a unique hair loss pattern and situation that requires a different approach towards restoring their lost hair. At New England Associates®, the options are many and the choices are yours! Your hair restoration procedure, hair transplantation or otherwise, is your decision and it should be based on the facts.

Fortunately, modern science has revolutionized the way clinics perform hair transplants, no longer relying on the traditional cornrow method that would leave a patient with “pluggy”, unnatural looking results. So YES, they really can work. Currently, a hair transplant can be performed by harvesting DHT (or Dihydrotestosterone) resistant hair from the back of one’s scalp and then transferring it to areas of thinning or damaged hair or balding areas. This DHT-resistant hair is genetically programmed to continue growing in the recipient area even in the worst cases of male pattern baldness, with the exception of men who suffer from diffuse pattern baldness. Men with diffuse pattern baldness are recommended an alternative hair loss solution such as HairStart® Laser Hair Therapy because there is no guarantee that hair transplanted from a patient with diffuse pattern hair loss will continue to grow.

There are a few additional factors that increase the success of a hair transplant. One of these factors is hair density. Patients with naturally more dense hair will see more promising initial results. Hair density is the number of hair follicles you have per square centimeter of scalp. Scalp laxity is the looseness and flexibility of the scalp. More grafts of hair can be transplanted when the patient has both a high hair density and high scalp laxity.

The direction of hair grafts also affects your visual coverage. Coarser hair is bulkier and can be transplanted using a smaller number of grafts since it provides more coverage of the scalp. Fine hair has less body and can provide a very natural look but less coverage than coarse hair. Wavy and curly hair lends itself to great visual results during transplantation because a single wavy or curly hair can cover more area of the scalp than a straight hair. In addition, curly hair rises from the scalp and holds it shape resulting in greater coverage. Many people with various types of hair loss may benefit from hair transplantation and our professionals at New England Associates® would be happy to discuss the options available to you.

At New England Associates®, you will have the opportunity to meet with your physician who will answer any questions you may have with the most current information on hair loss and treatment alternatives. We will perform a FREE microscopic hair and scalp analysis where your specific hair loss and scalp condition will be evaluated. In addition, you may be given the opportunity to meet with actual hair transplant patients in various stages of their procedures. Before and after pictures are important, but we encourage you to meet with as many patients in-person as possible. We are confident you will be impressed with others’ results as well as your own.

If you’re ready to say goodbye to hair loss, please visit our website at www.HairStart.com or call 1-866-HairStart to schedule a no-cost/no-obligation microscopic hair & scalp exam to diagnose the cause of your hair loss problem and discuss which procedures are right for you!

Total Laser Treatment Package at New England Associates

Laser Hair Therapy: New England Associates® Offers a Total Treatment Program

New England Associates® laser hair therapy program, is not just laser hair therapy. With the use of this innovative therapy in combination with our exclusive line of HairStart® hair and scalp care products, New England Associates® can help change the way you look and feel about hair restoration and replacement.

How Laser Treatment Works
Laser light uses the scientific principle of photobiotherapy. This process occurs when cells absorb light and repairs themselves. Laser light penetrates deep into the tissues of the scalp, increasing circulation of blood flow and stimulating the metabolic processes necessary for hair growth. While laser hair restoration won't bring dead hair follicles back to life it will stimulate follicles in the state of decline and make existing hair thicker and fuller.

Benefits of Laser Hair Treatment may Include:

•             Stopping excessive hair loss.
•             Fuller, shinier, softer, thicker and more manageable hair.
•             Repairs and improves hair shaft quality.
•             Relieves irritating scalp conditions.
•             Increased hair strength and elasticity.
•             Longer lasting color; less fading and oxidation.
•             Repairs damage normally caused by chemical services

The results of your laser treatment are enhanced when you combine it with products like the HairStart® Essentials and HairStart® Condition25™. HairStart® Essentials delivers the most powerful DHT blockers than any other product. You follow this up with HairStart® Condition25™, a specially formulated conditioner that is rich in vitamins, amino acids, and minerals.

There are SEVERAL HairStart® products to choose from,  all of which are proven to result in healthier or fuller hair. When you arrange your free consultation, your doctor will listen and evaluate your specific situation and create a treatment plan that is perfect for you.

Shamrock
The four-leaf clover is seen as good luck because it is rare to come across. There are a couple of different symbolic meanings behind it. Each leaf symbolizes a different lucky characteristic: respect, love, wealth and health. In a religious sense, it could also mean the father, the son and the Holy Spirit, with the fourth leaf symbolizing God’s grace. Female Hair Loss: Pam's Story

Many would agree that there is a strong relationship between a woman’s hair and her self-confidence. Naturally thick, luscious locks can increase a woman's self-esteem, while thinning, damaged, and brittle hair tends to lower one's self-confidence. But, why do some women experience hair loss while others don’t? Many factors can contribute to the loss of hair, including chemotherapy, stress, heredity, modern medicines, impulse control disorders, and even hormone imbalances. Luckily, there are answers, and they are at New England Associates. Actual NEA client, Pam, discusses her experience with hair loss and how NEA helped her restore her hair.

Pam’s Story
Pam suffered from severe hair loss as a result of polycystic ovarian syndrome — a hormonal imbalance in women. This syndrome increases testosterone (male hormone) levels in women and can cause male pattern baldness.

“I was not comfortable in my own skin. I always felt like someone was staring at my head or that you could see a reflection off my head. That’s not exactly something a woman is comfortable with.”
 –Pam

Pam took the first step and scheduled her free consultation with NEA. Pam received a free hair and scalp analysis to determine her type of hair loss and which one of NEA's proven solutions would work best for her. Pam chose non-surgical hair replacement and now has fuller, thicker, and natural looking hair.

“It’s a scary prospect to go into but it is the best investment you will ever make in yourself. I can’t tell you how much of a different it made.”
 –Pam
