October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month in New England!

           

This month, pink ribbons will be gracing our T-shirts as millions march on the fight against breast cancer. As we all come together to celebrate the fighters and survivors battling this disease, we all become unified by the bravery and hope of millions of women.

Breast Cancer, like any other type of cancer, can destroy a person internally and greatly affect them externally.  The survivors of this malicious battle are often left with scars, and in many cases lose things that make them feel feminine, like their hair. One concern most survivors have when battling this disease and going through chemotherapy is, “Will my hair grow back?”

Hair Loss Awareness Month

August is National Hair Loss Awareness Month, to inform those who are unaware and to comfort those who are suffering from hair loss. At New England Associates® we care about our clients and want to give them all of the knowledge and resources available to be able to combat hair loss.

Men and women are both effected by hair loss, contrary to popular belief. Studies have shown that women make up 40% of hair loss sufferers. As many as 85% of men will have significant hair loss by the age of 50 and some loose hair starting at age 21.

Male Hair Loss Causes

The most common type of hair loss that men experience is male pattern baldness, which is genetic. Some other common causes include: medical conditions, diet, stress and hormones. Summer Hair Care: Keep Your Hair Healthy All Summer Long

Most people are very conscious of their skin while in the sun, they apply sunscreen and bring cover ups to block the UV rays, and even protect their eyes by making sure they have sunglasses or a hat. But what about your hair? The sun, chlorine, and saltwater can have damaging effects on your hair. Frizzy Hair

Being out in the sun for extended periods of time allows the summer heat to soak up all the moisture from your hair. As soon as you walk out into any sort of humidity your hair will soak up any moisture it can, leaving you with frizzy locks of hair. Don’t forget that after a long day in the sun you need to moisturize your hair as well, not just your skin.
