Look as Good as You Feel™!

Many men and women suffer from hair loss. While there are several reasons that lead to hair loss, such as age, stress, or hormonal imbalance your hair reflects your body’s overall health. One of the best ways to Look as Good as You Feel™ with your restored hair is to also incorporate regular exercise.  Daily exercise is not only good for the body, but it can also improve and strengthen your hair’s growth cycle. Here are some simple exercises* you can incorporate into your daily routine that are great for improving your health and your hair and scalp.

Cardio
Jogging, cycling, swimming, and HIIT (high-intensity interval training) are all great cardio workouts for getting the heart pumping and promoting blood flow all over the body. Doing any cardio exercise for at least a half hour daily increases blood circulation to your scalp. The scalp requires good blood flow to boost hair growth. Plus, while you’re sweating the pores in your scalp open up which helps to flush out toxins that are harmful to the hair.

Deep breathing
Practicing deep breathing provides the scalp with oxygen which help rejuvenate damaged hair and promote new hair growth. Deep breathing also reduces anxiety and stress which is one of the causes of hair loss. Take about 5-10 minutes to do various deep breathing exercises each day. Even better you can do them just about anywhere such as your daily commute or at work.

Inverted Exercises
Inversion of your body reverses blood flow towards the scalp and is also said to help with lymphatic drainage and balances hormones. This can help slow thinning hair and reduce hair loss. Elevate your feet above your head and hold them there or, if you’re able, perform completely inverted exercises such as headstands or handstands. Practicing yoga and stretching is a great workout for performing various types of inverted exercises for all fitness levels.

Massage
At the end of a long day or strenuous workout a massage is a great way to wind down and soothe your tired muscles. Massages are not just for the body but for the scalp as well. Massaging the scalp increase blood flow to the scalp, which circulates all the essential nutrients to the hair follicles and promotes growth. Using the pads of your fingers gently rotate your hands around the scalp for about 1-2 minutes. You can do it yourself or ask your partner to do it for you.
At New England Associates men and women have achieved longer, stronger, healthier hair! Many of our clients have renewed confidence which helps them make other changes in their life that are positive for them, like exercising.

Hair Color Options That Won’t Damage Your Hair

Hair coloring has presented some of the biggest trends in recent years. It’s not just for covering up grays but is now used for fashion and expressing oneself. With the rise of social media and viral exposure many techniques and color effects have been created to achieve the next, coolest trend.  However, over-processing and regularly coloring hair can lead to dry, brittle strands and hair loss. If you want to change up your look without your hair suffering damage from harmful chemicals try these safer, healthier hair dye options.

Henna

Henna is a natural plant dye and a popular choice among those seeking a chemical free hair coloring option. Rather than damaging your hair, henna can condition it, which boost elasticity, strength and shine. It gives your hair a colorful tint without penetrating the hair shaft. It may wash out quicker than traditional dyes but it’s effective in coloring your hair without the harsh chemicals.

Semi-permanent hair color

If you’re looking for more variety of colors for your hair, using a semi-permanent hair rinse is the perfect solution. Semi-permanent hair color also does not penetrate the hair shaft which limits damage and breakage caused by bleach and other chemically altering options. Today’s semi-permanent options come in an array of trendy colors and shades and many brands also add in helpful ingredients for your hair such as aloe vera and vitamin E.

If you’re suffering from thinning, damaged hair caused by over processing New England Associates can help! We offer numerous surgical and non-surgical options to solve any level of hair loss. You can also check out our NEA Salon products. Our hair care products are designed for chemically treated and non-treated hair, hair replacement systems and hair extensions.

Many clients who dye their hair and whose hair is thinning say that our FDA approved Laser Hair Therapy helps restore their hair.  Some say they think the laser treatments actually help retain their color longer!

You can restore, replenish, and strengthen your hair with our proven effective hair loss treatment programs for men and women. For longer, stronger, healthier hair contact our office to set up your FREE, no-obligation hair and scalp consultation today!

4 Warning Signs of Hair Loss Men Should Look For

Hair loss is thought to affect 50 million men in the United States, and half of all men by the age of 50 years. Hair loss can be caused by several factors such as: genetics, age, and hormones. Although male hair loss is common, the psychological effects can still be stressful. Thinning hair can make men appear 10 years older than their actual age resulting in a drop in self-esteem and confidence. The good news is that hair loss is completely treatable and the sooner you catch it the better your results. Here are some signs of thinning hair men of all ages should be on the lookout for.

A receding hairline and crown area
One of the most common and noticeable signs of hair loss in males is a receding hair line or a growing bald spot on the top of the scalp.  The Norwood Scale is a diagram that points out the various stages of male pattern baldness. The crown and temple areas of the scalp typically are the sections that begin to thin out first. If you notice your forehead becoming more prominent or a growing m-shape pattern in your hairline it may be time to visit New England Associates.

 The Norwood Scale ™

Your scalp is more prone to sunburn

With thinning hair comes less protection from the sun’s UV rays. As hair thins on your scalp you may notice that it burns quicker or more often than before. Sunburn not only causes damage to your scalp but can weaken your hair follicles and speed up hair loss. If your scalp is becoming more sensitive to the sun and your time outside has not increased it can be a sign of thinning hair.

Hair styles don’t hold as well as before
Are you using more product to get your hairstyles to hold? Does your hair not lay the same way it used too? This is a telltale sign of hair loss. As hair thins it loses its density and strength in those areas and causes bald spots to show, and hair to not sit how it used to. If the amount of time you spend trying to manage your hair increases and you notice yourself covering up thinning areas more often, you may be losing more hair than thought.

You notice more hair falling out
The American Academy of Dermatology says it’s normal to lose around 50-100 hairs a day. Your hair goes through different phases and each individual hair can be at a different part of that cycle. However, as you style or wash your hair, if you notice more hair coming out than usual you may have alopecia. Male pattern baldness, or androgenic alopecia, is the most common form of alopecia in men and is generally related to men’s genes and sex hormones. Check your combs, hairbrushes, shower drain, and pillowcases for hair. If you notice more strands than usual, give us a call!
At New England Associates® we can solve your hair loss! We offer individualized programs that address multiple stages of thinning or balding hair and provide safe and effective alternatives. A good scalp and hair care regimen combined with a customize treatment program can restore your thinning hair. You’ll achieve longer, thicker, healthier hair with NEA. The earlier you take steps to solve your hair loss the better! Contact us to schedule your FREE, no-obligation, private hair and scalp analysis and consultation.

4 Easy Hair Care Resolutions You Can Actually Keep

How are those New Year’s resolutions coming along? At two months into the new year many are struggling with maintaining their resolutions. Life can be hectic, and some resolutions are easier to keep than others. Don’t worry though!  We have some easy to follow resolutions for your hair so you can be more confident in showing off your beautiful, thick, healthy hair all year long!

Get Regular Trims
Regularly trimming your hair is important for maintaining strong healthy hair. Leaving dead ends for too long can cause hair to get easily tangled and cause breakage. Depending on your desired style and hair type getting a trim every 6-12 weeks is recommended. Pro tip: Make sure you go to a licensed stylist to cut or trim your hair! Your stylist can tell you about how often you should be getting a trim and recommend the best length to be cut. Your spouse or your BFF does not count…we’ve all seen enough videos of failed DIY hair cuts to know how that will turn out.

Drink More Water
Getting enough moisture to your strands from the outside is just as important as getting it internally. Water makes up almost 25% of the weight of a single strand of hair. Drinking at least two liters (8 cups) of water a day will help to strengthen your hair and increase growth. Plus, it’s great for your skin too! If you have trouble remembering to drink enough water set a few daily timed reminders on your phone. There are also plenty of apps that keep you mindful of your daily water consumption.

Use Less Heat
If you straighten or blow dry your hair daily, you could be raising your chances of premature hair loss. Too much heat damages your hair causing it to become weak, brittle and prone to breakage. Instead of heat styling let your hair air dry and explore some easy updo’s or fun braid styles you can wear. Remember not to go outside with wet hair in freezing temperatures! If you’re in a rush and don’t have time to air-dry your hair skip wetting your hair altogether and use dry shampoo instead. If you must heat style, make sure to always apply a heat protectant product and use the lowest heat setting needed.

Follow Proper Wash Technique
There is a proper way to wash your hair to reduce damage and slow hair loss. When washing make sure you focus on cleaning the scalp as much as your actual strands. Too much sebum build up on the scalp clogs hair follicles which can lead to hair loss. Starting with the scalp, using the pads of your fingers gently scrub your scalp and work your way down to the ends. When conditioning focus on the ends of your hair first then work your way up towards the scalp. Use warm water for shampoo and cool water to rinse out conditioner. Using too hot water dries out your hair and lowers your hair’s elasticity leaving it more prone to split ends and breakage.
Bonus resolution: Switch to sulfate and paraben free shampoo and conditioner. These chemicals have been found to be one of the key culprits of hair loss and thinning hair and destroy hair follicles.
